In Our Way of Proceeding – Standards and Benchmarks for Jesuit Schools in the 21st Century, Standard 1: Domain 1 states: “A Jesuit school’s primary and operative self-understanding is that it is an
apostolic instrument at the service of the mission of the Society of Jesus and of the Church.” In support and reflection of their Catholic and Jesuit identity, schools are asked to not only have a mission statement that reflects this identity but also display it, use it, and regularly reflect on it.
For reflection:
- How does our current mission statement reflect our Catholic/Jesuit identity?
- What is the familiarity with our mission statement among leadership and faculty/staff of our school?
- Where is our mission statement found both in concrete locations around school and online?
- How does our in-person and online presence reflect our mission statement?
- How does our mission statement compare with the mission statements of other Jesuit schools around the network?
